Mission: Brain PAHS Chapter successfully organized a 'Hypertension and Diabetes Screening Health Camp' at Tokha Chandeshwori Hospital in Kathmandu on November 8th 2023.Â
‍
Organizing the “Free hypertension and diabetes screening camp” as part of Mission: Brain PAHS was not just an act of service, but a formative experience in leadership and management. The initiative aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3, promoting access to quality healthcare in underserved communities. From the early planning stages—setting a date, outlining roles, and breaking down complex tasks—to the final execution, this experience emphasized the importance of detailed planning, clear delegation, and responsive communication. Supported by a 35-member team and volunteer force, the camp screened 180 patients, offering them counseling and free medication. Our collaboration with Tokha Chandeshwori Hospital, outreach via social media, and training sessions for volunteers showcased the power of coordinated efforts and grassroots mobilization in tackling non-communicable diseases.
‍
Behind the scenes, the experience was a masterclass in overcoming logistical and interpersonal challenges. Whether it was seeking sponsorships, following up with team leads, or navigating unpredictable hurdles like weather and crowd flow, each step demanded adaptability and resilience. We used feedback loops, Google forms, social media engagement, and regular meetings to ensure alignment and momentum. This camp became a living example of how leadership isn’t about perfection—it’s about persistence, people-first planning, and learning through doing. The satisfaction of watching our vision come to life and reading positive feedback from volunteers and attendees reaffirmed that management and social skills are as vital as medical knowledge in creating real-world impact.
