To mark International Childhood Cancer Day, we organized a heartfelt two-day celebration by collaborating with the Pediatrics Department of Patan Hospital, focused on honoring and uplifting children undergoing cancer treatment. Centered around the global theme “Inspiring Action,” the program aimed to bring together healthcare professionals, volunteers, and the wider community to create meaningful moments of joy and connection for these young warriors.
The main event on February 13 began with an opening speech by Dr. Sucharita, followed by a series of powerful addresses from key dignitaries including Hospital Director Dr. Rabi Sakya, representatives from the Ministry of Health, WHO Nepal, NEPAS, and other senior figures from the medical community. Their presence and words highlighted the collective commitment toward improving pediatric oncology care in Nepal.
The formal session transitioned into a vibrant and emotional cultural program, where children, nursing staff, and volunteers performed dances, songs, and poetry. Each performance was a moving testament to the strength, creativity, and resilience of the children. A special cake-cutting ceremony added a warm and celebratory touch, making the day truly unforgettable for the patients and their families.
On February 15, we continued the celebration with a dedicated gift distribution program. Carefully selected presents were handed out to every child in the pediatric oncology ward, turning an ordinary afternoon into a moment of happiness and surprise. The joy on their faces made it clear how much these small gestures mattered.
The involvement—through promotional support, volunteer efforts, and resource sharing—played a vital role in bringing this program to life.
As the coordinator, I feel incredibly grateful to have been part of such a meaningful experience. These two days were not just about celebration, they were about reminding these children that they are seen, loved, and supported. And that even in the toughest of times, there is always room for joy, kindness, and a little bit of magic.
We hope to carry this spirit forward and continue building moments like these in the years to come.
