As the year comes to a close, we would like to share a brief summary of how the donated Doppler ultrasound equipment has been used in our neurosurgical program since it was placed into service.
The Doppler was first used on August 21. Since that time, it has supported the following procedures:
- 40 pituitary tumor surgeries
- 7 craniopharyngiomas
- 4 tuberculum sellae meningiomas
- 2 clival chordomas
- 1 sphenoid planum metastasis
- 1 trigeminal schwannoma
(all performed through endonasal approaches) - 16 aneurysm cases
- 5 skull base meningiomas treated via microsurgery
Before this donation, patients were required to rent Doppler equipment from an external provider at an average cost of 10,000 Mexican pesos per case. For context, the average monthly income in Jalisco is approximately 8,000 pesos, which limited access for many patients.
Throughout this period, the hospital continued to perform a high volume of complex neurosurgical procedures and remains one of only two hospitals in Jalisco that perform more than 1,000 neurosurgeries annually.
This update is shared to document the direct, practical impact of the Doppler donation and how targeted contributions can help reduce financial barriers to specialized neurosurgical care.
Thank you for your continued support.
